Pet Rat Adoptions Ontario

You've decided you want to welcome rat(s) into your home, what's next?

  1. Read the info below!
  2. Browse our pictures and profiles for the adoptable rats!
  3. Fill out an application!
  4. If approved, bring home a new FOREVER friend!

PLEASE NOTE: Our rats can be adopted WITHIN a 2-3 hour radius of the GTA or Parry Sound, with possible exceptions depending on circumstances.

We hope your connection with Frankie's World and your rat(s) will be a lasting one, and we are here to support you through ALL OF IT: the adoption, transition, as well as ANY TIME in the future. We also LOVE getting updates on rats in their forever homes! SERIOUSLY, if you have ANY questions, want rat care tips or experience any issues at all, let us know! We are ALWAYS here for rats (whether they've been adopted from us or not), and the humans that care for them.

Thank you for your interest in pet rat adoption! Our rats have so much love to share and make the BEST companions! Super smart, social, and make very deep bonds with their people.

The questions we ask are to determine the following so please be as honest and open as you can:

  • To determine your experience and knowledge of rats - that helps us to help you find the best rats that fit exactly what you are searching for.
  • To find out where you are at with setting up enclosures.
  • To ensure you will care for rats and take them to a vet if needed just like dogs and cats.
  • To ensure you have enough time to give rats the enrichment they and free roam time.

MOST IMPORTANTLY, if for whatever reason you are no longer able to properly care for your rat(s), or you believe that your home is no longer a good fit for them, we ask that you PLEASE BRING YOUR RAT(S) BACK TO US! Please do not give away, sell, or re-home them on your own. There is absolutely no judgement, we understand that circumstances can change, and are happy to take them back into our care if need be, whether that be temporarily or permanently. We are not a rat breeder, we are a rat adoption centre and only want the best lives for our rescues. IF you need to return a rat(s), it is YOUR responsibility to get them back to us, whether that's to our physical location (most often Parry Sound where we have the most space), or a foster home if we can secure one. We can help with transport at times, in exchange for a donation to cover gas money and time, but our resources are thin, so we appreciate you taking the time to bring them back if they need to return to us.

We have connections with other Ontario rat adoption centres and can link you up with amazing rat shelters in Ontario if our rats aren't suited to you for whatever reason!

If you don't see any rats listed that feel like a good fit, we often have new intakes that aren't yet updated on the website, so if you are looking for something specific, send us a message and we can let you know who else we might have available!

VERY SPECIAL HUMAN NEEDED for a bonded group of 7

    Meet our Special 7 ladies

SPECIAL HOME NEEDED for a group of 7 two year old girls. They have been together their whole lives and must be adopted together.

These ladies have lots of health problems that ARE MANAGEABLE but need a very special human who is able to give that extra level of care to them so they can have the best life possible despite what's been thrown at them.

All girls are extremely friendly and easy to handle, Cleo is a little bit shy, but the rest are super sweet and social . Even if someone can’t commit to adopting them, but if somebody within an hour or an hour and a half radius of the Parry Sound location who would want to be there forever Foster, we would be happy to cover the cost of their medication‘s and any medical care they might need, as well as provide dental trims for Serenity, if somebody can provide them a loving home where they will get far more attention then they’ll get it the rescue.

These girls were surrendered at the end of July 2025 by a woman whose asthma got too severe to care for them anymore.

Bella, had a mammary tumour removed when she arrived at the rescue. She had some complications with anaemia due to the lice that she had when she arrived at the rescue, and some postoperative nosebleeds, but she has stabilized and is healing very well.

Two of the other females have tumours as well, Cleo has quite a large one that seems like it’s probably not operable because of its very large size already. One of the other girls has a smaller tumour that we’re looking at having removed before she is ready for adoption. All of these girls who have either had their tumours removed, or currently have tumors, are on a medication called cabergoline which they will need every three days for the rest of their life to prevent a recurrence of the mammary tumors, and to prevent/delay onset of pituitary tumors, which are a type of brain tumour that’s extremely common and Rats, the most common cause of death in rats. So it’s very important that whoever adopts them is experienced in rat care, is experienced in administering medication through a syringe, and can commit to supporting them and providing them the medication and the care that they need for the rest of their lives.

One of the additional girls, Penelope, had a respiratory infection when she got to the rescue and is being treated and doing very well.

Serenity, one of the black hooded girls has malocclusion of her teeth, so she will need trims every one to two weeks for the rest of her life. If you’re interested in adopting this group, you will need to find a local veterinarian who is able to trim the teeth for you, or if you live close enough to the Parry Sound location of the rescue, we are happy to provide complementary tooth trims as long as you can bring her to us for them every 1-2 weeks.

They come with a double Critter Nation cage and all of their supplies that were donated along with their Surrender.

SPECIAL HOME NEEDED - Dolly and Bridgette

Meet Dolly and Bridgette (Bonded duo)

SPECIAL HOME NEEDED - These girls were a group of 3 when they arrived but sadly they suddenly lost one of their sisters soon after settling at the rescue. They are as sweet as can be but are way more difficult to home as they both require lifetime medication in hopes to control and slow benign tumour growth. They have both had tumour removal surgery but are at a high risk of developing future tumours or pituitary tumours. If you can be a special home willing to give daily medication then these girls will give you their entire lifetime worth of love and affection!

Dolly (golden), and Bridgette (grey) are a pair of laidback rats who love snuggling in hanging baskets, getting treats and head scratches from hands, and poking their heads out at any moment to say hello when they spot you. Lucy in particular with her quirky slight head tilt (the result of a previous ear infection, totally benign now) will always come up to the cage doors to greet you, begging to come out and play. They enjoy digging for treats in a ping pong ball pit and inspecting every square inch of your home during free roam time. Lucy and Bridgette have small benign mammary masses which require bromocriptine doses once a day to keep them small. Dolly will need to be given this by syringe as she hates the taste, but we are working with her so she becomes more accustomed to the quick process. Please consider giving these three uber friendly, bubbly girls the forever home they're looking for!

Mushroom, Noodle and Soup (Bonded trio)

Meet Mushroom, Noodle and Soup (bonded trio)

Mushroom (black hooded), Noodle (brown hooded), Soup (grey dumbo).

These girls are 1.5 years old, surrendered to the rescue by someone whose roommate moved away and left them behind. The sweetest Girls ever, super social, super gentle and sweet, extremely easy to handle, the perfect pets. The only special note is noodle had surgery two weeks ago to remove a benign MAMMARY tumor. These tumours are very common and female rats as they age. She did extremely well with her surgery and her bandage will come off very soon. She is on a medication called cabergoline to help prevent the recurrence of any tumors, as well as to try and prevent or slow the onset/development of any pituitary tumours in the future. If you'd like to give these amazing and friendly girls a home, you would

need to be prepared to continue to give her this medication daily, for life. If you have any questions about it please do ask and we're happy to talk to you about it!

Scarlett, Sable, Skye and Sage (bonded group of 4)

Scarlett, Sable, Skye and Sage (bonded group of 4)

There 4 girls were surrendered to us through no fault of their own. The owners current situation didn't allow them to remain. Here's what they shared with us about these 4 girls!

The four Marvelous girls. These girls have been part of the family since they were 6 months old. Scarlett and Skye are the closest as they were brought in together at the same time. Sable and Sage were added shortly after and are close. They are all around the ages of 2 years old. They all have Marvel styled names as we are Marvel fans.

Here’s some info on each one…

Scarlett: brown colour. She’s very calm. Easiest to handle. Loves treats.

Skye: grey and white colour. A bit shy but will warm up to you. She loves to rip up boxes or toys.

Sable: black and white colour. She's usually aware of everything going on. Doesn't like being touched much. She will let you touch her and give treats.

Sage: white colour. Most timid of all. She's adventurous. Does like treats.

These girls must be adopted as a group of 4.

Dove, Diamond and Daisy (bonded trio)

            Meet Dove, Diamond and Daisy

Dove, Diamond and Daisy are 3 sisters who were Born October 2024 in a backyard in Huntsville. Former owners were unknown to us. They were being bred for pet food and when their landlord evicted them, they got upset that they were being evicted and released their pet rats outside. 3 litters were had, and all the moms, dad, and babies have found homes except for these ladies! They didn't have a great start to life but are Very social, friendly, outgoing and would make lovely pets for anyone of any experience level.

            Spot and Dot (bonded duo)

              Meet Spot and Dot

These wonderful young black furred girls have been looking for homes for over 8 months now! They came from someone with good intentions of rescuing them from a bad situation, but who sadly didn't recognize her limits, and was not able to properly care for them either. We recommend a patient household that is willing to provide these girls with consistency and lots of love. They were not socialized well as babies and are still learning how to interact with people (though they do not nip!), but they’re doing amazing so far. They have already improved so much and we know with the right home and attention they will come out of their shells and learn to trust people.
