Pet Rat Adoptions Ontario

You've decided you want to welcome rat(s) into your home, what's next?

  1. Read the info below!
  2. Browse our pictures and profiles for the adoptable rats!
  3. Fill out an application!
  4. If approved, bring home a new FOREVER friend!

PLEASE NOTE: Our rats can be adopted WITHIN a 2-3 hour radius of the GTA or Parry Sound, with possible exceptions depending on circumstances.

We hope your connection with Frankie's World and your rat(s) will be a lasting one, and we are here to support you through ALL OF IT: the adoption, transition, as well as ANY TIME in the future. We also LOVE getting updates on rats in their forever homes! SERIOUSLY, if you have ANY questions, want rat care tips or experience any issues at all, let us know! We are ALWAYS here for rats (whether they've been adopted from us or not), and the humans that care for them.

Thank you for your interest in pet rat adoption! Our rats have so much love to share and make the BEST companions! Super smart, social, and make very deep bonds with their people.

The questions we ask are to determine the following so please be as honest and open as you can:

  • To determine your experience and knowledge of rats - that helps us to help you find the best rats that fit exactly what you are searching for.
  • To find out where you are at with setting up enclosures.
  • To ensure you will care for rats and take them to a vet if needed just like dogs and cats.
  • To ensure you have enough time to give rats the enrichment they and free roam time.

MOST IMPORTANTLY, if for whatever reason you are no longer able to properly care for your rat(s), or you believe that your home is no longer a good fit for them, we ask that you PLEASE BRING YOUR RAT(S) BACK TO US! Please do not give away, sell, or re-home them on your own. There is absolutely no judgement, we understand that circumstances can change, and are happy to take them back into our care if need be, whether that be temporarily or permanently. We are not a rat breeder, we are a rat adoption centre and only want the best lives for our rescues. IF you need to return a rat(s), it is YOUR responsibility to get them back to us, whether that's to our physical location (most often Parry Sound where we have the most space), or a foster home if we can secure one. We can help with transport at times, in exchange for a donation to cover gas money and time, but our resources are thin, so we appreciate you taking the time to bring them back if they need to return to us.

We have connections with other Ontario rat adoption centres and can link you up with amazing rat shelters in Ontario if our rats aren't suited to you for whatever reason!

If you don't see any rats listed that feel like a good fit, we often have new intakes that aren't yet updated on the website, so if you are looking for something specific, send us a message and we can let you know who else we might have available!

Unique pair Harry and Ginny (Bonded Duo)Matilda and her Colourful babies Group of 5 bonded girlsMama, Angel and Midnight (bonded trio fostered in Niagara ONT)Adoption Application

Matilda and her Colourful babies

Meet Matilda and her colourful babies

Matilda is coming out of her shell and has gotten pretty confident! She is a bit freaked out about being picked up. She has a lot of energy and is very food driven! She is learning how to be more gentle with human hands. Overall she is a sweetie and would thrive in a home that will allow her to build trust and flourish.

All of the babies are very sweet and have been handled since birth. They are growing more confident as they age and will be ready to go home after March 14.

UNIQUE PAIR Harry and Ginny (boy and spayed girl pair)

      Meet Harry and Ginny

Harry and Ginny are one unique pair- we usually don't ever see girls and boys live together for.... reasons. But because Ginny is spayed, they make an adorable married couple! If you're having trouble picking between boy and girl rats, why not have both!

Harry is as sweet and goofy at heart as he looks- he's very friendly, gentle, and loves attention. Ginny is the same, albeit more sassy. Harry frequently checks to on Ginny to make sure his wifey is alright, and of course nudge his head into her neck to check she still loves him.

Ammi, Cricket, Ferret, Sugar and Georgia (Group of 5)

Meet our group of 5 bonded girls

Our larger group of 5 girls came from a very difficult situation and are so bonded that they Would prefer they get adopted together.

Ammi: brown Rex and the oldest girl

2.5 years old and has some health concerns that are treatable and currently being managed well. Current pneumonia and fractured back right leg. On meds and doing well. Although she came  from a bad situation she along with her sisters are showing great improvements since being here. Expected to make a full recovery!

        Cricket: larger black. 1.5years

        Sugar: smaller black. 1.5yrs

Ferret: larger brown agouti. 1 year

Georgia: smaller brown agouti. 1 year

Very bonded group. Very friendly and social, easy to handle. Georgia is a bit more shy with handling but will come around. Georgia has a current infected bite wound on her leg but it is already healing really well.

These girls had a traumatic past so need someone stable, loving, gentle, who will give them lots of love and attention.

Preferably a home without other animals.

Mama, Angel and Midnight (fostered in Niagara ONT)

Angel, Mama, and Midnight (fostered in Niagara ONT)

This is a group of 3 girls that are being fostered in Niagara. They are all around 10-12 months old and very friendly making them suitable to almost anyone's home! One of the girls is on a medication called cabergoline which she will need for life so her new family will need to be comfortable and able to get her the medication. If you have any questions please ask away! They are just the sweetest girls and cant wait to find a forever home!
