PLEASE NOTE: Our rats can be adopted ALL OVER ONTARIO! We have wonderful volunteers and can arrange rides to almost anywhere so don't let the location stop you from inquiring about some ratties!
Thank you for your interest in pet rat adoption! Our rats have so much love to share and make the BEST companions! Super smart, social, and make very deep bonds with their people, the most "human-like" of any companion animal we've ever had.
If you've decided you want to adopt a pet rat, please fill out the adoption application form below. The questions we ask are to determine the following so please be as honest and open as you can
We hope your connection with Frankie's World and your rat(s) will be a lasting one, and we are here to support you through the transition as well as ANY TIME in the future. We also LOVE getting updates on rats in their forever homes! SERIOUSLY, if you have any questions, want rat care tips or experience any issues at all, let us know! We are always here for you and the rats.
We have done rat adoptions in Hamilton, Burlington, Mississauga, Toronto, Kitchener, London and other cities in southern Ontario. We also have connections with other Ontario rat adoption centres and can link you up with amazing rat shelters in Ontario if our rats aren't suited to you for whatever reason.
MOST IMPORTANTLY, if for whatever reason you are no longer able to properly care for your rat(s), or you believe that your home is no longer a good fit for them, we ask that you PLEASE BRING YOUR RAT(S) BACK TO US! Please do not give away, sell, or re-home them on your own. There is absolutely no judgement, we understand that circumstances can change, and are happy to take them back into our care if need be, whether that be temporarily or permanently. We are not a rat breeder, we are a rat adoption centre and only want the best lives for our rescues.
Tom and Jerry are about 1 year old. They were surrendered to our rescue fairly recently. They are a bit scared and skittish but with the right family who will be a bit patient with them, we know they'll warm up and come out of their shells. We have seen so many times where with the right environment and patient family, they skittish rats can warm up super quickly to their humans. They would do well with someone who has experience with rats and knows how to give them the time they need to get used to friendly people.
These bonded brothers are extremely sweet and love to eat food from your hands without nipping! We are still working at handling them as they can be a bit skittish but they are warming up to us more and more every day. They would love someone who can be patient with them being handled and understand that sometimes they want to spend time with you, crawl on you but not be held. The more time spent with them, the more they allow us to hold them.
The three boys are approx 7-8 month old dumbo rats with a tuxedo colouring. Two look almost identical and one has a white nose with a small speck on his head.
They are currently with another individual but need to be re-homed ASAP due to changes in circumstances.
Here is what their current human has to say
"They immediatly charmed me with their sweet personalites. The one with the white nose, Speck, is shy but sweet. He loves to crawl on the walls of the cage. The biggest, Sleepy Boy, loves to be pet and scratched. He has a favourite corner he rests in when he wants attention. The last boy, Nibbler or Nibs, is always craving attention. He will groom your fingers raw if you let him. They are not the most photogenic but hopefully these pictures are enough to find them a loving family!"
Peanut, Sesame and Oreo, formerly known as Bubba, Murphy and Mitch are a bonded group of 3. Murphy and Mitch were born at our rescue in June 2023 so are almost 1 year old. Bubba joined their group of 3 after a pet store closed down and we offered to take in the remainder of their pet rats to find them good homes. Bubba is a few months older than the others. These 3 boys are all very sweet and continuing to get more comfortable being handled. They did have a home that was playing with them lots but unfortunately due to life circumstances they have brought them back to the rescue and could no longer care for them.
This trio is now with a foster in Guelph who is working to socialize them even more and help them through this transition period.
They would do well with any family but especially someone who has experience with rats and knows how to give them the time they need to get used to their new environment and people.
WELCOME Skipper, Tack, and Jib! These 3 brothers were surrendered by someone who had been following us on social media for the last few years and had recently acquired these boys from her cousin. They hadn’t been taken care of in the best way, and she herself although having past rat experience, was allergic and her busy lifestyle didn’t allow for the proper care of them. They came to us with quite significant upper respiratory infections that seem like they’ve been present for quite some time unfortunately. Luckily they hadn’t progressed to pneumonia and after a few weeks of antibiotics (Enrofloxacin and Doxycycline) They are significantly better, though not totally symptom free yet. They are THE SWEETEST boys, so social, friendly, kind, and loving. Such big personalities and always want to play and interact. Tack is the rambunctious one of the group, always darting out when he hears me come in the room. Skipper is the snuggly one, really loving his massages. Jib is quiet and reserved, but not shy at all, liking to spend his time burrowing in blanket forts. These fellas would make THE PERFECT rat companions, and if we find the right adopter, they are up for adoption! The challenge is that they are likely close to 2 years old already, and they have respiratory infections that may likely need lifelong meds. For that reason, we are prepared to keep them as permanent sanctuary residents and would be looking for someone to sponsor each of them! However, if you or anyone you know is an experienced rat human and wanting to adopt amazingly sweet senior ratties with some health issues, these are your men!!
